If you’re looking to launch a home-based food business, the Government of Ontario has released a step-by-step guide to help you get started. The guide includes an overview of public health requirements and other necessary steps to follow before opening your business. It also provides examples of safe, low-risk food items suitable to prepare and sell out of your home.
As a way of supporting home-based businesses and entrepreneurs, the provincial government has also made changes to certain food regulations. In an effort to support small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, home-based food businesses that prepare only low-risk foods are now exempt from specified handwashing stations, commercial dishwashing requirements, and food handling certifications.
